Mrs. Touch Sokchea
Mrs. Touch Sokchea A family is built on love, and Mrs. Touch Sokchea knows the pain that occurs when the love does not last. After her parents divorced, she lived in a rented room with her mom, husband, three children, brothers and sisters at Pror Sam village, Ror Ang commune, Kampong Siem district, in Kampong Cham. Three years ago, her pain grew even larger when her husband left, leaving her to raise her children, ages 5, 8 and 10, alone. She began to work twice as hard to support her mother and the three children, whose education also had to be paid for. In the mornings, she would go to the restaurant where she works as a dishwasher, for about $100 per month. In the evening, she runs her own small business, selling snacks like eggs, meatballs, grilled beef and soft drinks, which adds about $140 to her monthly income. Despite her low-income and the growing needs of her family, Mrs. Sokchea was able to save enough money to buy a piece of land near where she was living. She didn’t stop there, however, and continued to save in order to give her mom and children a better life and home. “As a widow it is very hard to work alone to support many family members and at the same time save up to build your own house,” she said. Through an advertisement, she found out about First Finance, and took out a $3,000, 104-month loan on November 17th, 2016. The property she purchased for $9,300 is already worth $11,500, making Mrs. Sockhea even happier she settled her family into a safe and secure home. “I am very thankful to First Finance for providing me a loan to build a home for my family,” she added.
